Free Family Fun Event

The children's Ministry at our Church (Crossroads in Schererville) is having a free family fun event on Sunday September 16th, 3-6pm.
3:00 - Games open
Free Crafts for the kids, moon walk/slide, face painting, music...
4:00 - Cold Blooded Creatures Program

5:00 - Food on the Lawn - FREE!!

If you can, bring a side dish or dessert to add to the potluck, but not a necessity to com.

So our annual Labor Day block party was a great success - even though we didn't have to get the keg that was on back-up! The kids had an awesome time going from the pool to the 15'X15' bouncer to the swing set to the sidewalk paint. The big kids had fun on the 4-wheelers. The food was awesome - thanks to everyone who pitched in! Thanks to Pat & Dave for hosting the party and allowing us to move inside when the bugs got horrible. Thanks to the DD Missy who very carefully drove me to the gas station to get more gas for the 4-wheelers. Thanks to the bouncer dude who left the bouncer overnight so that some of us could try it out at 1:30 AM - what an awesome time!!

Ok this is from the drama queen. I finished the treat. It was the video of some of the hoodbillies. Now I am going to make a Hoodbillies 2 for some of the rest of the hoodbillies. But I need some new photos of everyone so it can be as funny as the first one. I will try to post the video on the blog as soon as I am done making the hoodbillies music video! So I am technically making 3 videos of the hoodbillies. But it takes awhile to upload. So you guys are going to have to wait. But one last thing your not going to see it until it is posted on the blog.

Okay, so last Friday night Lach and Therese had the fire pit going in their driveway and we were all hanging out for "throw your beer can on the yard" night. Somehow we started talking about Chuckers 4-wheeler and decided to go get it from his garage...Chuckers wasn't home - they had gone to MI for the NASCAR race. We got the 4-wheeler out and we all were taking turns driving around the neighborhood and on the trail through the "nature preserve" at the end of our street.
Several "events" took place that evening which I believe are worthy of being published on our blog. I'm only going to write about the one "event" that took place that scarred me for life! I am sure there will be other stories to follow!!
So I (Shawnie) had gone out on the 4-wheeler a few times with Brian. We drove around the neighborhood a little bit and Brian took me back on the trail a couple of times. I really had a blast. Later in the evening Lach asked if anyone else wanted to drive the 4-wheeler, I stated that I didn't know how to drive it so they decided to teach me. I had on flip-flops so I had to borrow Brian's left tennis shoe so that I could shift gears. I took the 4-wheeler around a couple of streets and into the grassy area at the end of our street, but never went into the trail. I was only gone a few minutes and decided to return. They all started questioning me as to why I didn't go out on the trail.
me: I don't know, I don't think I can go out there by myself
hoodbillies: sure you can, you'll be fine
me: well what if I kill it and can't get it started? What do I do?
hoodbillies: Don't worry, you won't kill it! Go ahead, you'll be fine
The hoodbillies kept insisting that I would be fine. I recall asking at least 3 times what I do if I kill it and each time I was told not to worry about it. So I take off on the trail. Mind you, it's about 11PM, completely dark outside and this trail winds around about a mile out in the middle of nowhere! We're talking a trail wide enough to fit one vehicle. The trail has been mowed, but the grass/weeds around the trail are tall enough that you can't really see over them. So I'm out having a great time when I see a bird right in front of me so I, like most women, slow down for the bird and, you guessed it, kill it! Not the bird...but the 4-wheeler. Here I am stranded in the pitch dark, 11PM, in the middle of nature preserve. Thank God I had my cell phone in my pocket. I immediately grab it and call Brian in a panic. I'm crying and screaming, fearing for my life, and the hoodbillies are all laughing on the other end of the phone. I start to hear noises around me like coyotes and start crying and screaming even harder. Brian finally tells me what to do to get the 4-wheeler started again and I'm doing this, but the 4-wheeler will not start! At this point, Brian starts to get on Lach's bicycle, but realized that I have one of his shoes. So Dan, takes Brian's cell phone and hops on the bike to come rescue me! The whole time I'm screaming and panicking. After what seemed like 30 minutes Dan arrived. Dan gets on the 4-wheeler and tries to start it, but he isn't able to either. We open the gas tank and shine the cell phone light into the tank to see if there's gas and there was. Dan messes around with some other stuff and finally gets it started. Just then we spot someone trying to sneak up on us. They're turning off their lights so that we can't see them coming. Something I didn't tell you earlier is that some of the hoodbillies had been chased by the police in our neighborhood and had gotten away. So we're thinking that their after us. Dan decides to ditch his bike in the weeds and we take off together on the 4-wheeler. We get to the end of the trail and we have to turn around. Dan starts heading back and I'm freaking out because we're going to have to pass this person who is now chasing us. We start approaching this individual and they start flashing lights at us. I'm telling Dan to stop because it might be the police and if he doesn't stop they might shoot at us! Dan doesn't stop...doesn't even let up! As we get right up to where this person is we see that it's Lach! He had hopped on his bike to come and help us. So Lach and Dan decide to ride their bikes back together and I take the 4-wheeler. Only now there's a full size vehicle on the trail heading towards us. Well, I'm convinced that this time it is the police. This vehicle is coming at us pretty fast so I move over to the side of the trail as this person starts approaching and I have no idea what I'm about to encounter by myself because Lach and Dan are still a ways back on their bikes. Eventually the vehicle gets to me...it was Brian in his truck! He decided this would be a perfect opportunity to take the truck off-road! Why he didn't think to do this in the first place I have no idea...instead he let me be stranded out there for what seemed like an eternity until Dan was able to bike all the way out to me. I immediately get off of the 4-wheeler and into the truck...I wanted NOTHING to do with the 4-wheeler anymore. Dan put his bike in the back of the truck and takes the 4-wheeler back and Lach puts his bike in the truck and rides back with Brian and I.
This was the scariest thing I think I have ever done. I was so scared out there by myself!!
Thanks Dan for saving my life! You're fast thinking of hopping on the bike and biking it as fast as you could through muddy trails to rescue me saved my life from the coyotes...it was only a matter of time before they would have gotten me...my fingers were covered in Garret's cheesy popcorn residue and they could smell it and were coming for me.

I am sure there will be several more stories that will be posted from this same night, including the pictures that were taken.
